Accessibility Statement for Lekker Kos

At Lekker Kos, we are committed to ensuring digital accessibility for everyone. We continually improve the user experience for all users, applying relevant accessibility standards. Our website is designed to be compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 level AA.

Our Commitment to Accessibility

Lekker Kos believes that everyone should have equal access to information and services, regardless of disability. We are dedicated to providing a website that is accessible to the widest possible audience, including individuals with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor impairments.

Measures to Support Accessibility

Lekker Kos takes the following measures to ensure accessibility of the Lekker Kos website:

Specific Accessibility Features Implemented

Image Alt Text

Every image on the Lekker Kos website includes descriptive alt text. For example, an image of a well-seasoned Potjiekos simmering over coals will have alt text similar to: A cast iron Potjiekos pot bubbling over an open fire with vegetables and meat visible. This allows users with screen readers to understand the context and content of the images.

Keyboard Navigation

The entire website is navigable using a keyboard. Users can use the tab key to move through interactive elements, and the enter key to activate links and buttons. For example, to access the contact page , a user can tab through the navigation menu and press enter when the Contact link is highlighted. This ensures that users who cannot use a mouse can still access all content.

Color Contrast

We have carefully selected color combinations to ensure sufficient contrast between text and background. For instance, the text color is set to a dark gray (#333) on a light gray background (#f8f8f8), providing a contrast ratio that meets WCAG guidelines. We also offer a dark theme option that reverses these colors, using light text on a dark background for users who prefer that.

Resizable Text

Users can easily resize the text on the Lekker Kos website using their browser's zoom functionality. This does not affect the layout or functionality of the website, ensuring that users with low vision can comfortably read the content.

Semantic HTML

We use semantic HTML elements to structure our content. For example, we use <article> for blog posts, <nav> for navigation menus, and <aside> for supplementary content. This helps screen readers understand the structure of the page and provide a better user experience.

Accessible Forms

All forms on the Lekker Kos website are designed to be accessible. Each form field has a clear label that is associated with the input element using the <label> tag and the for attribute. This allows screen readers to announce the purpose of each form field. We also provide clear instructions and error messages to help users complete the forms successfully. The contact form is an example of this.

Ongoing Efforts

Lekker Kos is committed to ongoing accessibility improvements. We regularly review our website and conduct accessibility audits to identify and address any potential issues. We also welcome feedback from our users to help us improve the accessibility of our website. We use tools such as WAVE and Axe DevTools to continuously monitor and improve our compliance.
